Festival Fashion Fix: Issue 1 - Camden Crawl

FF's very own favourite fashion fledgling, Katie, will be coming to our festivals this year to look for feverish new patterns and summery trends to keep you updated on what's good to wear.

Here's her first take on how the UK compares to them California kids over at Coachella.

Festival Fashion Fix

April - Vol. 1 - Coachella V Camden

California's Coachella officially marks the beginning of Fashion Fix's summer of style in early April. Here at FF, we have been devouring photos and blogs of the Californian desert goers and their outfits, which often set the tone for the season to come. We look to see whether this years British festival fashionistas can beat them at their own game?

Coachella has a marked difference to most UK ones - it's dry and very, very clean! No need for the Hunters then! The main fashion tips were heels, the taller the better (see Nicholas Kirkwood heels), micro shorts, often denim, native american accessories, lots of white lace, and flower-power prints.

We particularly loved Eliza Doolittle's feathers (I will be adding them to my trilby come summer here in Britain) and Kate Bosworth always knows how to look cool in the Coachella heat (girl crush).

So, how do our home grown talent compare to the Hollywood celebrities? We went for a jaunt down the always fashionable Camden market in London for this years Gaymer's Camden Crawl to kick off our review of UK festival fashion this year....

Amy and Cassie succeeded in mixing high street and designer fashion effortlessly to create cool, laid back festival outfits. Amy's Primark leopard print jumpsuit teamed with an ever fashionable Louis Vuitton bag set the fashion bar high early on in the crawl. 21 year old Cassie showed how to make a classic look of Breton tee (Uniqlo) and Topshop skinnies look fresh and ready for summer. Loving her stylish accessorising of vintage bag, RayBans and YSL ring.

Take a fashion tip from Becky, who works the OTK sock trend without crossing over into school girl territory with her gorgeous Primark dress (we're massive fans). The tan New Look leather jacket helps create a mix of innocent yet playful dressing, a perfect festival combination.

Loving how Parisian Rubie looks in this unique outfit. Her long locks and the coolest headscarf of the day catch the eye straight away and her Urban Outfitters skirt looks fantastic. The beauty is in the details - just look at perfectly colour matched Topshop satchel and shoes. Tres chic!

The denim trend has never looked so good. A cute Amy Holmes shows us how it's done and once again a fabulous head band and great necklace give it the festival vibe. The boots and sock combination (who would have guessed the boots are Next?) plus bare legs is very spring trend and the piece de la resistance has to be the tan bag from eBay.

We had a brilliant day out on the Crawl and met some great girls. It was a bright sunny day and the styles on show fully showed off the summery look we were trying to find. The California desert probably wins the glamour stakes but we saw a great mix of trends and accessorising, integrating high value items with cute, low cost bargains. A strong start for the Brits for festival fashion 2011!

We'll be back next month for the next issue.
